A card’s expiry date is set when the card is activated (i.e. loaded for the first time), and is set in accordance with whatever the merchant’s policy is at the time of activation. It is also possible to override the merchant policy by supplying an expiry date in the request (See the “Loading” section for more information).
If a card has passed its expiry date, any transaction attempts will fail with a response code 60. The merchant may extend the expiry date of an individual card via the Connect Manager web portal if this is desired. Not every merchant has an expiry policy, but a large majority do.
